1. About these terms
iotax.lk (“iotax”, “we”, “us”) is a product of PFMNext Advisory Services (Pvt) Ltd, a company incorporated in Sri Lanka. These terms are an agreement between you and PFMNext Advisory Services (Pvt) Ltd. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. What iotax is, and what it is not
iotax is an independent service that makes the Sri Lankan individual income tax return easier to prepare. You answer simple questions in plain language, and iotax turns your answers into guidance on what to enter in each schedule and cage of the official Inland Revenue Department (IRD) return.
iotax is completely separate from the IRD and its systems:
- We are not part of, appointed by, affiliated with or endorsed by the IRD.
- iotax is not connected to the IRD's online services. We do not access your IRD account, and we do not send your information to the IRD or receive anything from it.
- iotax does not submit tax returns, pay tax or communicate with the IRD on your behalf. The official return is submitted to the IRD by you, through the IRD's own channels.
- What iotax produces is guidance and an estimate. It is not an official assessment. Only the IRD can assess your tax.
3. How the service works
io Filing (do it yourself)
- You answer simplified questions about your income, tax already paid, reliefs, assets and liabilities.
- iotax calculates your estimated tax using the rules for the supported year of assessment.
- iotax shows you how to fill in the IRD return: which form, schedule and cage each figure goes in, and which of your answers it comes from. You can view this on screen and download it as a PDF.
- You fill in and submit the official return to the IRD yourself.
io Submission (consultation)
- You upload the documents we ask for, such as salary certificates, bank letters and receipts.
- Our team uses them to fill in your return in iotax and may ask you questions or for more documents.
- You review everything we prepared. You can ask for changes, and you must confirm the return before it is final. Confirming locks the return in iotax.
- You then use the confirmed guidance to submit the official return to the IRD. Submission to the IRD remains your decision and your responsibility.
4. Your responsibilities
- Give information that is true, complete and up to date, and keep your answers updated if anything changes.
- Only upload documents that are genuine and that you are entitled to share.
- Review every figure before you confirm it or copy it to the IRD return. You are responsible for the return you submit to the IRD.
- Meet the IRD's deadlines and pay any tax, penalty or interest due to the IRD. For the year of assessment 2025/2026, the return is due by 30 November 2026.
- Keep your own records as the law requires.
- Keep your sign-in details secure and tell us immediately at support@iotax.lk if you think someone else has used your account.
- Only prepare a return for another person if you have their permission and the legal authority to do so.
5. Accuracy and limits of the service
We build iotax around the Inland Revenue Act No. 24 of 2017 (as amended) and the IRD's published forms and guidance for each supported year of assessment, and we work hard to keep it accurate. However:
- Tax law, IRD forms and IRD practice can change, sometimes after we have updated the service.
- The results depend on the answers and documents provided. Wrong or missing information leads to wrong results.
- Some situations are not covered. Where an IRD item is not covered, iotax shows it as not collected, and you should get professional advice for it.
- We do not guarantee any refund, tax saving, or that the IRD will accept your return or agree with the figures. The IRD's assessment always prevails.
iotax does not provide legal advice. Under io Submission, our team prepares your return from your documents, but the final decisions and the submission to the IRD are yours.
6. Fees and payment
- Fees are charged per return (one tax year). The price is shown before you pay and is fixed when you start that return. Current prices are on the pricing page.
- You can pay by card through our payment provider, Stripe, or by bank transfer. A bank transfer is confirmed once our team has checked your receipt. Access to paid features starts when payment is confirmed.
- Our fees are for the iotax service only. They do not include any tax, penalty or interest you owe to the IRD, which you pay to the IRD directly.
- Refunds and cancellations are covered by our refund and cancellation policy.
7. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use iotax to give false information, evade tax or do anything else unlawful;
- upload documents or content that are not yours to share, or that contain malware;
- try to access other people's accounts or data, or parts of the service you are not authorised to use;
- interfere with, overload, copy, scrape or reverse-engineer the service.
8. Your content and our content
You keep ownership of the information and documents you provide. You allow us to use them to provide the service, as described in our privacy policy. The iotax software, design, text and brand belong to PFMNext Advisory Services (Pvt) Ltd or its licensors. You may use the guidance we produce for your own tax affairs.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, PFMNext Advisory Services (Pvt) Ltd is not liable for any tax, penalty, interest, loss or damage that arises from: information or documents that were wrong or incomplete; figures you did not review before confirming or submitting them; the IRD's decisions or assessments; returns filed or tax paid late; or events outside our reasonable control. Our total liability for any claim relating to a return is limited to the fees you paid us for that return. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Sri Lankan law.
10. Suspending or closing accounts
You can stop using iotax at any time and ask us to close your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used fraudulently, or puts the service or other users at risk. Where we can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to download your guidance.
11. Changes
We may update the service and these terms, for example when tax law or IRD forms change. If we make an important change to these terms, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use iotax after a change means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Colombo have jurisdiction over any dispute.
